Personality
Areum is an individual with a very expressive and loud persona who is not afraid to speak her mind and is regularly giving her own input to things, whether requested or not. She can tend to be sarcastic and by some standards sassy, and she generally takes a lazy or "not caring" attitude to things she isn't interested in or doesn't understand. She is very passionate about writing, singing, and her artistic abilities as well as learning new languages and exploring new cultures, particularly cultures from countries in southeastern Asia.
Areum can be a bit dependent on technology as she often has her phone or tablet nearby her at all times, and when she can, carries her laptop as well. But when she needs to, she can successfully depart herself from these and focus on whatever is at hand. She enjoys music and finds it something that helps her sort out her emotions and thoughts, which is why she always has a pair of headphones, whether or not they are connected to her phone or tablet or not. She is a fan of fashion, especially boots, skirts, shorts, and vests and likes to make new outfits that fit her personal style and taste. She is usually open-minded or at least tries to be, but when she strongly agrees with something, she will defend it no matter what.
While Areum may seem introverted at first, she is the exact opposite and is usually quite friendly unless you somehow have managed to strike a bad chord with her. Compared to when you first meet her to when you've become closer friends, she loosens up a lot. When she first talks with someone she makes an effort to be as polite as she can, the more comfortable she gets with a person, the more likely she'll be willing to let herself go wild.

History
The romance story between Abena Boateng and Junmin Bordeau was quite strange but resulted in the happy couple having three healthy children in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan province in China. Their eldest child was named Areum, their second child Kato, and their third, Elsa. The names were all strange and inconsistent pattern-wise, but the two agreed it was one of the many things that made their children special.
As Areum grew up in China, she learned a multitude of languages as well as many other things about France, Ghana, and Korea, where her parents were from alongside her Chinese studies. She grew to love music, writing, drawing, and learning. She made many friends who she loved and supported.
Nothing really interesting happened in her life up to the Academy. She went, came back. Went came back. This is her third year at the Academy.

Relationships
Family Relationships
Mother: Areum and her mother happened to be much closer nowadays because of their similar personalities and the common misconception that they look alike. While they can often butt heads they always find a way to make up and move on.
Father: While Areum and her father are distant in present time, they were much closer when she was younger and she knows for a fact that her father loves her and she loves him too.
Kato: Areum's younger brother is a wild mess and is very annoying most of the time. Areum likes to joke around with him sometimes while at others Kato is very much acquainted with the door.
Elsa: Areum's younger sister is just as wild, maybe even more wild, than Kato and can be extremely irritating to the point where Areum would be tempted to throw her out in the yard and lock her out of the house.
Friend Relationships
Alexa: Alexa is one of Areum's closest friends and confidants and while they do tend to tease each other a lot, Areum cares for Alexa and knows Alexa cares for her too. The two of them share a close bond that Areum is convinced cannot be replicated with anyone else.
Gaby: Gaby is what Areum could sometimes dub the "No-Nonsense" friend for her usual logical standpoints but in all honesty, Areum finds Gaby incredibly weird sometimes. She admires Gaby's love for running although she does find it strange and would never take up running as a hobby like Gaby does. She enjoys cheering on though and knows that Gaby will give equal support.
Mary: Mary tends to be what Areum dubs her most "sane" friend due to the crazy and weird personalities of most of her friends and close acquaintances. Mary can be down-to-earth but most of the time she isn't which makes her presence all the more enjoyable.
Mallori: Mallori has a very loud and strange personality that Areum enjoys being around even if her friend tends to doubt her skills a lot, to which Areum has to constantly remind her that's she better than what she subjects herself to.
Luca: Being one of Areum's closest male friends, Luca is a very very strange person who speaks in tongues and can't hold a grudge to save a life. He is very friendly but can sometimes be a bit close-minded. Areum tends to fool around with him a lot, and he's literally the only boy she actively gives a hug to as a friend.
Love Relationships
Nathan: Nathan is the one person that Areum would really consider her first real crush. She feels strong emotions for him that sometimes she can explain and other time she really just doesn't feel like comprehending them at that moment. While he can be annoying and quite bratty at times, Nathan often makes Areum laugh, even if she considers him idiotic most of the time.
