To most this night has been uneventful in the warm streets of Brazil, but tonight a girl is born, a girl who wields powers no human can imagine. Born in a small house, one that was falling apart, Anastasia’s mother gave birth with no one but a wet nurse to help. It was a long procedure, lasting nearly two days, and nearly killed both Ana and her mother. Later, by doctors, she was warned that it would be dangerous getting pregnant again but her mother shrugged it off. She had no plans of doing it all over again. For the next two years, the family was somewhat happy. Her father, though struggling to pay the bills, had stayed with them and helped in Ana’s raising and the two parents were happily in love. Ana has little to no memories of this time and can only remember a big man with a bushy beard.
Just before her first birthday, her mother found out that, once again, she was pregnant. The doctors did nothing but shake their head in contempt and the next nine months were hell.
When her mother began to give birth, it lasted twice as long as Ana’s did. Ana was kept well away from her mother and didn’t see her sister till the next day. It took her a while to understand that Alice had technically killed their mother, though it wasn’t her fault (which took her a while to accept).
Before their mother breathed her last breath, she was able to tell a nurse what the name of her daughter would be. Hours later, their father came to the hospital to pick them up, but was astounded to discover his wife had died. With a two year old and a newborn infant swaddled in blankets, he returned home where he immediately left the two by themselves in the dining room. He went to sulk in his wife and his—no, now his bedroom—and grieve about the death of his wife.
It took less than a month for their father to crack under the pressure of being a father to not only a two year old, but a newborn as well. In the middle of the night, he left the two on the footsteps of a church. When the church found them, they were extremely malnourished due to their father neglecting them. Having no money themselves, the priests sent the children to the government who placed them into an orphanage.
After a while the two began to adjust, Alice, who was more simple-minded than her elder sister, adjusted quicker. Ana was still somewhat paranoid at the events that had occurred in her life.
Years have passed and the two have grown, nearly on the edge of turning 10 and 8. The two mostly kept to themselves, but Alice went out to try and make a few friends. Most of her attempts did not end successfully, and as a result she became less confident in her social skills. Besides that, there was a boy named Edmundo who bullied the younger orphans. He happened to enjoy picking on Alice, who did not revolt against him for fear of her well being. Ana never tended to interfere or defend her sister, considering it as payback for their mother’s death in her young mind.
One day, they were getting ready for an excursion and the boy was pushing everyone into line and was particularly nasty to Alice. Finally snapping, Alice’s powers acted up and the water pipes snapped open, drenching the building and drowning the boy and half of the inhabitants, including the staff. Ana, who had noticed her own powers throughout the year, grabbed Alice and ran out of the building before anyone could react.
Living in near Columbia, the two girls were able to hide in the rainforests and stayed there for nearly a year and a half. Ana was quite good at cooking before this but her strength in it was cemented as she was forced to keep the two of them above starvation. During this time, Ana grew quite lonely, being someone who thrived in a social standing, but wasn’t brave enough to go venture back into society in fear that someone would send them to jail over the foster home incident. Alice, being her, had quickly adjusted and never complained verbally about the current situation. She took everything as it was, and silently hoped for a better tomorrow. But regardless, they survived and grew quite adept at hunting, they even got the hang of fishing.
They were eventually found by a pair of elderly people who insisted they take them in. They bathed them and fed them and one of them even went far enough to cut their hair. But, due to their age, they were blunt about not being able to keep them but, picking up on their adamancy of not staying in the city they grew up in, they convinced them to go try Rio and by the next night, they had a bag full of clothes and on a train station bound for the very city.
In Rio, they’re shifted into another foster home. Since they had no money, they decided, well Alice decided to and hooked Ana into doing it with her, to do small shows in populated areas. Singing and dancing, which they were both okay at. Eventually, a record dealer who was in Rio for a holiday spotted them and, seeing potential, asked them in Portuguese if they were sick of poverty and offered them a deal in America. For the next four years, they were tutored in America in English since they knew little and worked on their voices and dance moves before debuting at fourteen and twelve.
They were an instant hit.
For the next three years or so, they toured the world, banging out hit after hit. Whilst Ana hated, feeling like a monkey, or an animal on display at a zoo, she felt it was better than being on the streets. Though Ana had no motivation for it, she had a natural talent, as well as her sister. The world was deciding that Alice would soon outshine her older sister and do a Beyonce, since people were beginning to see that Ana had her attention on other things.
At a concert, someone knocked over something and in the heat of the moment, Ana’s powers flared up and set the curtains alight. Due to the unnatural disturbance and attention towards it, the elementals were called in and it didn’t take them long to figure out that the two girls were tri elementals. One of the elementals in the group sees his brother in the girls and, since there aren’t many tri elementals in the world, takes a gamble in belief that they are his nieces, especially since his brother had confessed to leaving two girls behind some time back. He pays for their tuition at the academy and they’ve resided in the place ever since.
